IF YOU ARE NEW TO OUR CLINIC, WELCOME! PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING YOUR INITIAL APPOINTMENT

All initial assessments, returning client re-assessments, and postpartum assessments are being offered both in the clinic and virtually.

How to book: Please book your initial appointment (in clinic or virtually- either is great!) followed by four follow-up appointments, scheduled once per week for 4 weeks. We require at least two business days notice for changes to your scheduled appointments. Business days are Monday through Friday, not including weekends and holidays. If you and your therapist determine that your treatment plan requires a different booking schedule, we will update your bookings!

We strongly advise booking your follow-ups now to set yourself up for success!

The pelvic floor is made up of three layers of muscles that connect from the pubic bone at the front of the pelvis to the tailbone at the back of the pelvis. They also connect side-to-side from one sitz bone to another creating a bowl at the bottom of the trunk to support all of our important abdominal and pelvic organs. This includes the bladder, bowel and in women, the uterus. The pelvic floor muscles assist with bowel, bladder and sexual function and serve as the base of the group of muscles referred to as the “core”. The pelvic floor muscles work with the deep abdominal muscles, deep back muscles and diaphragm to stabilize and support the spine. They also help control the pressure inside the abdomen to moderate downward forces when you lift or strain, such as during exercise.
Pelvic health physiotherapy is the first line of defence for individuals experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. Pelvic pain and dysfunction impact a person’s well-being and quality of life, making pelvic physiotherapy a vital service.
Pelvic floor physiotherapists are Registered Physiotherapists who are specially trained to use internal (vaginal and rectal) hands-on techniques to provide the gold-standard method of pelvic floor muscle evaluation and treatment. When the pelvic floor muscles are assessed and treated this way the results are readily apparent.

Massage therapy during the prenatal and postpartum period is extremely beneficial for aches and pains and general well-being.
Studies on Registered Massage therapy demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain, and muscle tension. The use of proper massage therapy techniques help provide nourishing stimulation to your achy muscles or obtain relief from chronic pain, as well as provide the blood flow to help remove toxins and waste through blood and lymph tissue. A therapeutic massage can enhance your overall sense of emotional and physical well-being!

Sometimes children need pelvic health support too! By the age of 5, 90% of children have daytime bladder control- for those who but many do not. Issues in the pediatric population may be related to constipation, voiding dysfunction, disabilities, and/or psychosocial issues.

Many children suffer from daytime and night time conditions which may include:
• Enuresis (bedwetting)
• Overactive bladder
• Urge incontinence
• Voiding postponement
• Underactive bladder
• Dysfunctional voiding
• Stress incontinence
• Vaginal reflux
• Giggle incontinence
• Increased daytime frequency
• Bowel/bladder dysfunction
• Fecal incontinence

Incontinence is a very common problem in childhood. One in five otherwise healthy five year olds and one in seven school age children are incontinent during the day or night. Enuresis (bedwetting) afflicts 5 to 10 % of children below the age of ten years and can also be experienced by older children and teenagers. If a child continues to experience symptoms at 5 years of age or older, active treatment should be considered.

Pediatric Incontinence Including Daytime Leakage and/or Bedwetting, Dysfunctional Elimination in children occurs when the pelvic floor muscles (PFM) are not working together with the bladder and/or bowel, and the normal voiding or emptying reflexes may have been disrupted.  This can lead to a chronic abnormal pattern of elimination which does not allow the bladder or bowel to empty completely. Some children experience difficulty urinating or controlling their bladder function, frequent bladder infections, constipation, not urinating enough during the day, or an inability to sense bladder fullness.  Children may periodically have leakage during the day or wake up wet in the morning or both.  This can be embarrassing and uncomfortable.  If your child has experienced any of the above symptoms, there is help available!
